A Note from the Commodore
Wednesday 17 July was a Banner Day for Quissett and the Quissett Yacht Club. We hosted the Unkie’s for younger sailors and their parents in the morning. The Junior Sailing deck was overflowing with breakfast snacks, sailors signing in and wonderful Quissett volunteers making everyone from 5 different yacht clubs feel welcome. The lawn and the driveway turnaround were a happy mass of Opti’s and sailors with all their gear trailering their boats down to the beach.
The outer harbor hosted the youngest competition, while more experienced sailors raced in the fog and the chop of Buzzard’s Bay off the Quam Quissett Beach Club. Parents swarmed the causeway on the Knob with binoculars to locate their Captain courageous in their races. Afterward Lunch and awards made for a wonderful day.
Then evening came for the Herreshoff race followed by supper and cocktails on the deck. Meanwhile, Willett Hall and the lawn outside it hosted even more young folks for the Unkie Ball, but really it was soccer balls, and frisbees and swim noodles that became light sabers.
Eventually the fog rolled in and all the families went home. What a great day and what a wonderful experience!
Thanks are due to the Quissett Harbor House Land Trust for use of the facilities and all the Volunteers that made the Unkies, the Herreshoff supper and the Unkie Ball so much fun for so many.
